Daugavpils Russian secondary school- lyceum is located in the south-east of Latvia, Latgale region. It is a public school with 716 pupils, aged 7-18 and 70 teachers (including 2 Dr.Paed and 58 MA).

Daugavpils is the second largest city of Latvia ( ~98, 000 inhabitants). It is situated in Latgale, the Southeastern region of Latvia, on the banks of the Daugava River. The city is surrounded by the largest water resources’ area of Latvia – 15 lakes, 8 rivers, including spring water. About 1850 hectares of forests and parks make Daugavpils one of the most picturesque and ecologically cleanest cities with rich flora and fauna. That gives pupils from local school study the nature working on different types of projects. Daugavpils is a multinational city, inhabited by Russian, Latvian, Latgalian, Polish, Belorussian, Jewish and Jipsy communities that have been living and cooperating for ages. The most charming things in our city churches of four confessions located side by side (Church Hill), a big fortress from 19th century and Mark Rothko Art centre, a multifunctional complex of contemporary art, culture and education. It is the only place in Eastern Europe where original masterpieces of the famous painter Mark Rothko (the founder of abstract expressionism) can be seen.

Daugavpils lyceum ensures qualitative competitive education taking into account individual learners’ needs and abilities ensuring learners’ growth and success in the modern changing world. We develop the environment favourable for mutual   enrichment of cultures, for patriotism, for acquiring active and healthy way of life. In our school-lyceum pupils are able to acquire two general educational programmes: basic general Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Technical Sciences Programme; secondary general Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Technical Sciences Programme. Students study three languages Latvian, Russian and English, also as an optional course is offered German language. Most of our students are highly motivated to study and our school gives them the opportunity to attend optional classes, and offers a great variety of extracurricular activities, like choir, folk dance groups, vocal ensembles, CLIL lessons, sport classes and etc.

The school provides equal attitude to all schoolchildren and staff regardless of sex, national and religious belonging. The school staff tries to endow pupils’ safety from the physical or moral violence, promoting a positive collaboration between pupils, their families and teachers. To promote pupils growth in studying an effective school and parents’ collaboration system has been created in the lyceum. Due to that parents have a possibility to get consultations with lyceum administration, tutors, subject teachers and school psychologist. Personnel support and help pupils, who have problems with acquiring new material or pupils with low studying motivation. A psychologist ensures the pupils with individual support, motivates, explains how to achieve the better results, and helps to be more successful at the lessons. There are no pupils with special needs in the lyceum. However there are children with various special (physical and emotional) necessities. Each pupil is considered as individuality in spite of his/ her physical or health abilities.

Since 2011 every year our school has been awarded with A. Kronvald Fund prize for the 2nd place in Latvia in the group of large schools according to the results gained in various national competitions, academic skills contests and subject Olympiads.

This project helps our students become aware of the problems of their community and get involved in important issues. They will work together with children with disabilities and will learn the importance of helping the others and being empathic.
