On February 17thour Erasmus team’s participants visited orphans’ house in Naujene. Since we frequently visit this place ( for me it was my second time) we always try to find fascinating activities for children. That time our main theme was Maslenitsa’s celebration. It is a traditional holiday which takes its place approximately eight weeks before Orthodox Easter. Maslenitsa is well-known for its great unique tradition – all week people eat pancakes! So we made a lot of pancakes together with orphans. Kids were very excited and happy to spend their time together with us doing something they really like. As children were divided in two groups (first one was making pancakes and second was crafting little paper boxes for candies) our team could spend enough time with each kid.
We tried to develop children’s co-working skills and to help them to communicate freely in any given situation. Also crafting is a very effective activity which helps children to evolve their imagination and diligence. It is a pleasure to work with those kids because most of them are very open-minded, active and creative. One of the most important things we learned is that we should be positive and honest with children. Only that is way we can successfully cooperate with them and see beneficial results.
